RC has beaten Coeburn the last 3 times they have played them as well (as well as TS)
When the league was strong, and we were battling at the bottom of it, we still crushed CD/BDD squads.

Newsflash! The LPD is not as competitive as it once was.
Don't be shocked, but there are some people who think the LPD will never be as competitive again as it once was. With Gate City going to the CMD, I wouldn't disagree with at all.

The LPD will be stronger. Things come in cycles. Will it be as strong as it was? I doubt it. As for the mighty CMD, at least in football, that distric will be just another of the state's also-rans, a whipping boy for the quicker, more talented squads up state. Nothing is going to change there. Get used to the CMD being referred to as a baseball league [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif[/img] What a baseball league it will be though (with JSB and VHS there)
The LPD has some really good programs at some of the schools. But like it or not, when GC leaves the whole LPD will go down hill. You play to your competition and without GC the best compitition will not be there, in any sport. Do I like Gate City? No, I pull for the other team regardless of who they play in any sport. However, it's kids playing not adults student athletes at GCHS are just like those at every other school across the LPD. They are playing to win for their school, team, town, etc. People dislike GC due to the old folk who go to the games and post on this board. You cant get on here and run your mouth about how great your fans are and then not even half way fill your stadium when your team is having a rough year (football this year), you cant go sit on the other schools side and cause problems (knowing good and well thats what is going to happen), and you have to be good winners (something I think GC has a hard time doing). I lost a lot of respect for GC over the Daddy's Boy chant a few years back, but hey to each his own I guess. I'd bet my last nickel those same people chanting that would trade the football state title game PV went to for the basketball Final Four GC went to. There leaving the LPD but you still have to play them in regionals so it's really not that big of a deal. They dominate female sports, but in the grand scheme of things there not that dominate in male sports. PV can hold their own with them in football, track, and golf. Wise can hold their own with them in baseball, golf, and tennis. So, as time goes on we'll see, in the end it's kids being kids and playing high school sports it's not the Super Bowl.
TS hasn't beaten Coeburn in the last 2 years. But Coeburn has been the LPD basement dweller with Kelly for the past few years. When some of these CD teams rack up wins vs. Gate City, Powell Valley, Appy, Burton, or Clintwood...sound the alarm. Pound has beaten TS the past 2 years as well...As far as Football goes...the CD is no match for the LPD..unless you are watchin Kelly or Coeburn.
